Spring is all about skiing, savings and sakura

Niseko is a magical place any time of year. However, spring holds a special place in the hearts of all the MnK team. For visitors to the area, not only do restaurants become easier to book during this time, but airfares can be much cheaper, there are less people on the mountain, and most importantly there are savings to be had all around. Think beautiful bluebird days scattered with the occasional fresh dose of powder. Find out why spring ticks all the boxes below!

Spring skiing

In Niseko, you can expect to see snow until late April to early May. This means that skiing and snowboarding are most definitely on the cards during spring. With less people in town there are fewer people on the slopes too. During spring, you can count on stunning bluebird days, more visibility and photo opportunities left, right and centre. Snow conditions are ideal for beginners and even the most advanced skiers and snowboarders will get some enjoyment out of shredding the slushier snow.

As always, there are plenty of opportunities to hit the backcountry and adventure out of resort. If backcountry touring is something you’re interested in, be sure to get in touch with Rising Sun Guides as they’ll be offering 10% off backcountry guiding tours until 12 March 2018.

Check out the cherry blossoms

This year’s cherry blossom forecast has officially been announced, see here. With cherry blossoms predicted to flower from late March to early May, there’s plenty of time to catch the beauty of sakura before your Niseko holiday or on your way home.

One of the best times about travelling to Japan during spring is the assortment of cherry blossom themed everything! Often times you’ll find sakura flavoured drinks, snacks and desserts at grocery stores, convenience stores and in cafes. The novelty of this never wears off.

Also, if you're in Hokkaido for cherry blossom season, get inspired by watching our short video edit from last year below. Nearby town Hakodate is noted as one of the most popular cherry blossom spots, and for good reason. See here for more information.
