Our Purpose and Mission
We started Midori no Ki (MnK Niseko) because we love being active, in nature and in an environment where people care about each other and their surroundings. Niseko, Hokkaido Japan has all of these elements as well as high quality locally sourced food and some of the best powder snow in the world.
As we started recruiting like minded people to join us, we agreed upon 5 core guiding principles: serve our property owners well, provide a memorable guest experience, be the employer of choice in Niseko, be active in the local community, and provide a positive return on investment to our stakeholders.
MnK’s ESG initiatives support our core principles.
Commitment to our People
We believe the foundation for providing a great service to our owners, guests, and caring for the environment is achieved by hiring a diverse group of people and trying to maximize each individual's ability. At MnK, we work together across our related but disparate business lines - real estate investment and brokerage, leasing, hospitality services, property management, construction project management, interior design, food and beverage outlets (Tomo and Cedar Coffee), EdVenture Kid’s camp, and Elevate ski school.
We provide career development opportunities and competitive compensation in addition to time off and financial benefits for skills training. Most importantly, our MnK management team always places family obligations first and we seek to have a healthy work life balance.
Our Environmental and Social Responsibility
We contribute to our communities both financially and with our time. We are a proud sponsor and organizer of non-profit music events and we subsidize kid’s activities for local families. We encourage and provide time off to our employees to be active in our communities. MnK provides internship opportunities with the local high school and universities in Hokkaido.
For the environment, we are active participants in our town’s recycling efforts as well as their volunteer drives to help clean up the town. In our EdVenture Kid’s camp program, we plant trees, compost our waste, plant and maintain gardens while supporting local farms. Each of these activities support our goal to reduce our carbon footprint. We have recently partnered with Goyoh on their EaSyGo system to measure our carbon footprint and allow our customers to offset their carbon footprint through contributions to eco-friendly projects.
Governance - Our Code of Business Ethics and Compliance
We run our business with the long term goal that if we put the needs of our stakeholders first - customers, employees, the local community, and suppliers - and we provide a compelling product or service, a profit will follow. We actively reinvest funds into our businesses and our people to ensure there is a long term plan for success. As part of our training and staff evaluation process, MnK requires high standards of personal and professional integrity at all times. We provide ongoing training throughout our employees' careers, to ensure that these levels of service and compliance are met.
