Frequently Asked Questions

CAT Tours

Do I need powder skis or a split board to participate in a CAT tour?

To maximise your experience, we recommend being equipped with skis or a snowboard suitable for powder.

For skiers this means 109mm in width or above for men, and 100mm or above for women. Skis will a fully rockered profile or rockered tips and tails are also great as this will help you float above powder. All mountain skis will also suffice, however they will not be as suitable for powder snow conditions.

For snowboarders we recommend a powder board. Boards that are designed with a wide nose and short tail will help ensure you have the best experience possible.

Do I need to come equipped with avalanche equipment?

Avalanche equipment is mandatory to participate in all CAT tours, and is provided by your tour operator. You are more than welcome to use your own avalanche safety equipment on tour. If you do choose to use your own gear however, please ensure that you are familiar with how to use the equipment and it is tested prior to your tour.

What happens if there is no fresh snowfall on the day of my CAT tour?

All of our providers operate in areas that are typically not accessed by skiers or snowboarders outside of the tour group. This ensures that snow conditions are untouched and fresh.
