MnK Supporting Room To Read, Hong Kong Gala

MnK was delighted to participate in Room to Read's award-winning fundraising event, the Room to Read Hong Kong Gala. Taking place on the 3rd of March Room to Read raised USD2.835 million in total. This amazing contribution will help to change the lives of 56,701 children in low income countries by giving them the life-long gift of education.

MnK proudly share in Room to Read's vision of a world where all children can pursue a quality education. Thanks to their vision and supporters, they’ve reached the milestone of having impacted 10 million within the first 15 years of operations, and today, scaling to reach an additional one million children every year.

Partnering with Financial Times and Credit Suisse, the Hong Kong Gala fundraising event was hosted by Room to Read's Founder, Mr. John Wood at The Four Seasons Hotel on Friday, 3rd March, 2017. 300+ of Hong Kong's successful, influential, and philanthropic individuals joined the event making it a great success.

Founded in 2000 on the belief that global change begins with educated children, Room to Read’s innovative model focuses on deep, systemic transformation within schools in low-income countries during two time periods which are most critical in a child’s schooling: early primary school for literacy acquisition and secondary school for girls’ education. They work in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations and governments to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children and ensure girls can complete secondary school with the skills necessary to negotiate key life decisions.

Room to Read has benefited 10 million children across 18,000 communities in Asia and Africa and aims to reach 15 million children by 2020. Learn more here.
