We Opened A Restaurant at The Orchards

Welcome our newest addition, Tomo Niseko, a modern Japanese izakaya located on site at The Orchards Niseko. We are thrilled to have officially opened the doors to our new restaurant and bar on 15 December, 2019.

The Concept Behind Tomo Niseko

If you have ever visited a Japanese izakaya, you'll understand that a big part of the experience centres on sharing a steady stream of dishes together. Often the menu is diverse, and typically attended by large groups of friends, colleagues or families. In the early stages of Tomo's planning, Head Chef Johan Soignet and Manager Timothy King were clear in their desire to follow a similar ethos however with a modern twist.

The restaurant features a welcoming and knowledgeable service team, and is housed within a contemporary chalet style design featuring views of Mt. Yotei. Materials throughout are locally sourced, adding to the welcoming aesthetic of the space. The Japanese kanji for Tomo, 共, means together and the dishes are created to be shared. The guest experience focuses on enjoying a meal together in either the main bar, the private dining room, or the upstairs dining area.

About The Menu

As Head Chef of Tomo, Johan brings with him a wealth of experience working in restaurants around the globe. Most notably, Ronin in Hong Kong, Sake no Hana in London and Kikunoi in Kyoto. Johan's cooking is influenced by flavours from Europe and Asia using classic and progressive techniques to prepare dishes. The result is a menu that reflects his worldly experience, and also pays homage to traditional Japanese cooking with ingredients-driven dishes. Above all else, the menu aspires to showcase local and seasonal produce of Hokkaido.

Dishes you can expect to find on their ever-evolving menu include Tomo Karaage, Tomo Cordon Bleu, Seasonal Pickled Vegetables, Braised Makkari Pork Belly and Snow Crab Rice Pot.
