What's On In Niseko: Niseko Butoh Evening

MnK is proud to sponsor the Niseko Butoh Evening, a celebration of art and Japanese culture, set in the beautiful SOMOZA Gallery and Restaurant. Enjoy an evening of dance, music and delicious food at this special event.

What is Butoh?

Butoh is an avant-garde dance created in Japan in the late 1950’s. This form of dance rejects socially constructed, framed and egoistic worlds. Butoh embraces the human body, free from tamed movements, as no longer the means and end of the dance, but rather as the very substance being revealed.

Butoh is a fascinating, powerful and poetic dance. Butoh is a mystery. It is the dance of Life in all its spectrum of darkness and light, away from judgments, appearances or limitations imposed by the mind

In Butoh, movement is not dictated from the outside, but comes from the inner world of each individual, from one’s stories, background, traumas, universal and personal memories. It expresses intense states and beings where the dancer transforms again and again in infinite possibilities.
