If you are looking to apply for a role with MnK in winter, check out our most commonly asked questions and answers below.
When do applications open and close?
Applications open in May and close in September. Interviews begin in June.
Do you provide accommodation?
Yes! We offer subsidized staff accommodation located close to both work and the mountain.
Do you offer short-term and long-term seasonal contracts?
Yes. Depending on the role, we offer short-term contracts starting in late November or early December through the end of February. Long-term positions may extend into March and April. Please refer to individual job descriptions for exact contract dates, as they vary by role.
Do I need a visa to apply for a seasonal position?
Yes. Most applicants must hold or be eligible for a Working Holiday Visa (WHV) to apply.
We only offer visa sponsorship for qualified Ski Instructor positions. For all other roles, a WHV is required.
For more information on the working holiday program in Japan see here.
Do I need to be able to speak Japanese to apply?
Not at all! Fluency in English is all we require, as English is the most commonly spoken language in Niseko during the winter season. However, Japanese, Mandarin, or other language skills are a big plus.
Do you provide training?
Yes, we provide a comprehensive (paid) induction and training program that goes for 1-2 weeks. We follow up with on-the-job training and coaching throughout the season.
How many hours per week will I work? Will I have time to ski or snowboard?
This depends on the role, but most staff work around 32 to 40 hours per week with 2 days off. Shifts can include mornings, evenings, or split shifts. There’s still plenty of time to get out on the mountain and explore the area, even during the workweek.
Do you offer staff access to lift passes?
All positions include a company-issued season lift pass for the Hirafu and Hanazono ski areas. Ski Instructors receive a commercial all-mountain pass for Niseko United.
I’m traveling with a friend or partner. Would you consider hiring both of us, and could we live together?
Yes, absolutely! However, we recommend applying for different roles so you’re not spending 24 hours a day together. If you both apply for the same role, we usually assign you to different locations. Shared accommodation is available, and we’ll do our best to accommodate requests to live together.
Does MnK provide social insurance (national health insurance, pension, and unemployment insurance)?
All eligible employees are enrolled in the company’s social insurance programs and are required to contribute. Eligibility may vary depending on the position.
Do you offer internships?
Yes, we offer internships for students in Japan. This opportunity provides valuable on-the-job training and development in an international working environment, unique to Niseko. Please see here for more information.
